The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Regarding Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes failing to inform every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with similar services.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Changes
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Manual Updates
A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
